The request was made under House Resolution (HR) No.320 entitled "A resolution requesting the Honorable Senate of the Philippines to grant its consent to the House of Representatives to extend its plenary session to Oct. 13, 2025, for the purpose of considering the General Appropriations Bill (GAB), fiscal year 2026 on third and final reading."
Deputy Majority Leader Senator Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito said that the resolution was read in the Senate's order of business on October 1.
"To allow the House of Representatives sufficient time to pass GAB on second and third reading in faithful compliance with the requirements Art. 6 Section 26 par. 2 of the Constitution," Ejercito said.
In approving the resolution, Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III said that this is to enable the House of Representatives to meet the targeted second reading approval of the General Appropriations Bill (GAB) for Fiscal Year 2026 on Oct. 10, 2025 while adhering to the requirements of the Constitution, particularly the mandatory three-day interval between second and third readings of the bill.
"The Senate of the Philippines hereby consents to the convening of the House of Representatives in plenary session on Oct. 13, 2025, or three days after the Senate adjourns for the consideration of the GAB for 2026 on third and final reading," he added.
