'Quedan' exits PAR; LPA trough, southwesterly windflow bring scattered rains
PAGASA
Tropical Storm Quedan (international name: Nakri) has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 11 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, and poses no direct threat to the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, Oct. 10.
PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda said, as of 3 a.m., the storm was located 1,350 kilometers (km) east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, moving northwestward at 20 kph.
Meanwhile, a new low-pressure area (LPA) was spotted 335 km west-northwest of Pag-asa Island, Kalayaan, Palawan.
Castañeda said it is not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone or enter PAR as it moves westward away from the country.
However, the trough or extension of the LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Bicol Region over the next 24 hours.
The southwesterly windflow will also continue to affect the Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan, causing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
The rest of Luzon is expected to experience partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA advised the public to remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides, particularly during moderate to heavy rainfall or severe thunderstorms.
