The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has lifted the tsunami warning issued after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck offshore Davao Oriental at 7:12 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10.
Phivolcs had initially warned coastal communities in Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Surigao del Norte, advising residents to evacuate following the quake.
Subsequent readings from sea level monitoring stations in Bislig City and Tandag City in Surigao del Sur showed no significant tsunami waves.
“Any effects due to the tsunami warning have largely passed,” Phivolcs said, officially lifting all warnings issued for the event.
