Contrary to what Cavite 4th district Rep. Francisco "Kiko" Barzaga thinks, House Deputy Speaker Antipolo City 1st district Rep. Ronaldo "Ronnie" Puno believes that there's no good reason to seek President Marcos' impeachment.
As far as Puno is concerned, Marcos is actually doing a good job as Chief Executive.
"Nobody's preventing him (Barzaga) from doing that. Kung gusto niyang gawin yan, eh di gawin niya (If he wants to do it then he should do it). But I don't think he's going to get very much support, to be honest," Puno said in a chance interview Friday, Oct. 10.
"Ako lang eh wala akong makita kung anong pwedeng gamitin na ipag-impeach si President Marcos. Wala talaga because I think honestly he's doing a good job (I can't find anything that could be cited to impeach President Marcos. There's really none because I think honestly he's doing a good job)," he noted.
In his vlog during plenary session Wednesday, Oct. 8, the eccentric Barzaga showed on camera an impeachment complaint against President Marcos for "betrayal of public trust". Reports said he has yet to officially file the document.
For Puno, the impeachment rap is a hard sell.
"He (Marcos) is bringing up the correct issues and he is determined to find the solutions in the issues he has raised. So anong i-impeach mo dun? (So on what grounds will you impeach him on?)"
Still, the National Unity Party (NUP) isnt one to stop Barzaga from pursuing such action.
"Pero syempre kung may isang tao na gustong gawin yan kahit walang base eh hindi mo mapipigil yun. But I dont think it will get anything. Palagay ko wala siyang makukuhang katulong dyan," the deputy speaker said.
(But of course, if someone wants to do that even without any basis, you can’t stop them. But I don’t think it will get anything. I don’t think anyone will help them with that.)
Marcos is past the halfway mark in his six-year tenure in Malacañang and in that period, nobody has ever filed an impeachment rap against him.
