AN 80-year-old man was killed in Davao City in the magnitude-7.4 earthquake on Friday.
DAVAO CITY – An 80-year-old man from this city was killed by a concrete wall that collapsed on him during the magnitude-7.4 earthquake on Friday morning, Oct. 10.
Police identified the victim as Sotero Cabil dela Cruz, a resident of Purok 3, Barangay Bangoy, Agdao District, Davao City.
Investigation said the victim was sitting near the concrete wall of a demolished structure in Barangay Soliman in Agdao at around 9:58 a.m. when the earthquake occurred.
Dela Cruz was taken to the Southern Philippines Medical Center here where he was declared dead on arrival at around 10:28 a.m.
His remains were turned over to Rivera Funeral Homes.
Meanwhile, the Ecoland Police Station under Police Major Edison Fiesta conducted a drone patrol at around 1:20 p.m. to monitor structures in their area of responsibility following the earthquake.
Fiesta said the patrol aimed to assess possible damage and aid disaster response operations. He added that the activity ended without any untoward incidents.
Personnel from the Bunawan Police Station led by Police Major Janus Lumbaya Macli-ing also conducted inspections of vital installations, establishments, and bridges at around 11 a.m. in their area.
Macli-ing confirmed that all roads and bridges within their jurisdiction remained passable. Police noted a brief power interruption at Crossing Ilang in Barangay Ilang following the tremor.
The earthquake that originated in the sea of Davao Oriental was felt at Intensity 5 in Davao City, causing panic and minor structural damage.
Authorities reminded residents to stay calm, be on alert for possible aftershocks, and report any structural hazards.
