Internet and cellular services in most parts of Davao Region remain stable following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck off the coast of Manay, Davao Oriental, on Friday morning, Oct. 10, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) reported.
“Internet and cellular services in most parts of Davao City, Davao del Sur, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental remain stable,” the agency said in an advisory.
According to DICT, the strong tectonic quake caused only “minor plaster cracks” in some areas and did not significantly disrupt digital connectivity in the region.
“All DICT facilities in Region XI are safe and fully operational,” it said.
The agency reported that Davao del Norte briefly experienced connectivity problems after the quake but the services were immediately restored.
“In Davao del Norte, temporary ISP and cellular instability occurred after the quake but were restored by 11:16 a.m.,” the DICT said.
To ensure communication lines remain open amid possible aftershocks or power interruptions, the department said it has activated backup systems to support uninterrupted operations.
“Starlink backup systems and HF/VHF radio links are on standby to ensure continued connectivity in case of aftershocks or power interruptions,” it said.
The DICT added that power supply “is stable across most provinces, with partial outage in some areas of Davao Oriental.”
