Davao Oriental 2nd district Rep. Cheeno Miguel Almario says he is praying for his countrymen's safety after a strong, magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck waters off the coast of his province Friday morning, Oct. 10.
"So far, we are praying fervently for everyone's safety amidst the quake. A tsunami warning has been issued and our LGUs (local government units) from the province, down to the barangays, are on high alert," Almario said in a statement to House of Representatives reporters.
Almario says officials are "continuously and relentlessly monitoring and assessing the damage this quake and the aftershocks have dealt".
"Thankfully, our provincial government, all municipal and city governments, and our district legislative offices are closely working together. We are also in close coordination with DSWD (Department of Social welfare and Development) Secretary Rex Gatchalian," added the House "Young Guns" member.
"We are expecting more aftershocks as evacuations are being performed. We need all the prayers and help we can get," he further said.
