DAVAO CITY – The Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao suspended on Friday, Oct. 10, all sea travel within its area of responsibility following the magnitude-7.4 earthquake.
In an advisory, the CGDSEM directed all vessels and watercraft transiting the area to cease operations until further notice, citing safety concerns due to the earthquake and potential aftershocks.
The Coast Guard urged mariners to stay updated on official information and take precautionary measures.
The Davao City government suspended work in all government offices until further notice, except for essential safety, security, health, social services, and emergency response services.
Private offices have been given the discretion to suspend work or implement work-from-home arrangements, but they were encouraged to prioritize their employees' safety and convenience.
Likewise, classes on all levels – public and private – have been suspended immediately to allow for rapid damage assessments of school facilities and other infrastructures, the city government said.
At least one person died in Davao region due to the earthquake.
The OCD advised residents in the Davao region and neighboring provinces to remain vigilant due to possible aftershocks.
