Tropical storm Nakri enters PAR, now called 'Quedan'

The tropical storm with the international name “Nakri” has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 12:40 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, and was given the local name “Quedan,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
In its 11 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the storm had maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph while moving northwestward at 15 kph.
The weather bureau pointed out that Quedan is unlikely to directly affect any part of the country as it may only graze the northeastern boundary of PAR.
However, it may enhance the northeasterly surface wind flow that could bring occasional rains over the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon in the coming days.
No tropical cyclone wind signals have been raised, but sea conditions over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon may become moderate to rough due to the prevailing winds, PAGASA added.
It is expected to exit the country’s area of responsibility between this evening and Friday morning, Oct. 10.
Quedan is the second tropical cyclone to enter PAR this month and 17th for 2025.
