At 24 years old, Jacob Ang should have been enjoying his young years and indulging himself to the comforts and opulence his famous father had provided, thanks to the many businesses that were stitched and refined together into one big empire that is now the San Miguel Corporation.

But he shied away and was recently tasked to lead one of their companies, the BMW Philippines, a luxury car brand that in his own words emits confidence and guarantees consistency.

Perhaps in these qualities he admired the game of golf, and is now one of the thousands of Filipinos joining the rave in recent times.

"Playing golf is somehow similar to managing business, they both require mental toughness, endurance," said Ang Thursday, Oct. 9.

As charismatic as his father, Ramon S. Ang, better known by his initials "RSA", Jacob was enthusiastic, gleeful, and was full of wisdom minus the air of intimidation.

Their family, after all, is worth billions.

But the younger Ang is a student of the game that has taught him patience and gifted him peace — a moment of solace now uncommon for individuals like him who are demanded 100-percent precision in work and utmost dedication.

"I enjoy it because I can do it in my free time," he said. "I play at my own pace."

Though he admitted he only plays at least once a week at Wack Wack, a plush golf course right at the heart of the metro, Ang said nothing compares to the feeling of hitting his drives long and making good putts once in a while.

"One of my friends encouraged me to play. After I got my first par, I got addicted," he stressed with a big laugh.

Ang, who has a background in car racing and for years was also a fan of tennis, has so much love for sports the company he is heading is sponsoring Sean Ramos, a Filipino pro golfer.

Ramos, who is a regular in the Asian Tour, is excited to represent the country when the world-class Sta. Elena Golf Club serves as host for the International Series Philippines late this month.

There, he will face some of the finest tour players, some of them major champions like Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson.

"I am very honored to play here in the Philippines and I'm very thankful to BMW Philippines for supporting me in my journey," said Ramos, who is one of the several local golfers in the field.

"He is the best ambassador for BMW. He is one of the best golfers we have," Ang said.

For the tournament, which runs from Oct. 23 to 26, Ramos will be driving an X5, an SUV that fits his needs for the golf bag and his other equipment.

He will surely tag along his girlfriend and fellow pro player, Laurea Duque, who has been a caddying for him in international circuits.
