RELIEF aid for Cebu from the province of Cotabato.
DAVAO CITY – The provincial government of Cotabato is sending over 135 tons of rice and other relief assistance on Friday morning to earthquake-hit Cebu province.
In 2019, the provincial government of Cebu and city government of Cebu extended financial assistance totaling P16 million to the earthquake-hit towns of Makilala, Magpet, Tulunan, and Kidapawan.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office acting chief Abril Espadera said 2,000 bags of rice, weighing 50 kilos each, were from the provincial government.
An additional 1,426 bags of rice weighing 25 kilos each were contributed by 17 towns of the province and consolidated by League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Cotabato chairperson Kabacan Mayor Evangeline Pascua-Guzman.
Aside from rice, Espadera said the provincial government is giving 1,000 jerry cans, 1,000 mosquito nets, 500 plastic mats, 100 rolls laminated sacks, 1,000 hygiene kits, assorted medicines, and veterinary medicines and supplies.
The municipality of Matalam donated P1-million cash assistance and P1.5 million from Makilala.
Pikit donated 50 rolls of laminated sacks and Aleosan and Midsayap gave 40 boxes of canned goods and five boxes of noodles.
Blue Green Poultry donated 150 trays of egg and 240 containers of drinking water from Sun Stone Construction and Supply.
The relief aid will be distributed to at least 10 affected towns.
On Thursday afternoon, Oct. 9, a send-off ceremony was held at the provincial capitol grounds in Barangay Amas in Kidapawan City.
Espadera added that the provincial government deployed 71 personnel to assist in the ongoing relief operations in earthquake-hit areas.
Veterinarians from the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian will conduct medical missions in affected areas, the PDRRMO chief said.
The 20-vehicle convoy transporting relief aid will travel at least 240 kilometers to Cagayan de Oro City where they cross to Cebu City onboard ferry boats.
Espadera said the contingent will assist in the relief efforts for five days before going home.
