Cavite police officer charged for allegedly raping detainee
CAVITE – A police officer in Noveleta has been charged for reportedly raping a female detainee.
In a statement released on Thursday, Oct. 9, the Cavite Police Provincial Office (Cavite PPO) identified the victim as alias Liza, a detainee at the Noveleta Municipal Police Station (Noveleta MPS).
Alias Liza reported the alleged crime through a 911 Kalasag Hotline call on Sept. 18.
Upon receipt of the report, authorities conducted an investigation and referred the victim for medico-legal examination at the Provincial Forensic Unit.
Representatives from the National Police Commission 4A inspected the Noveleta MPS to verify the report and ensure proper case handling.
The Women and Children Protection Desk and Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Unit are now jointly pursuing an in-depth investigation to determine the facts and protect the victim’s rights.
The concerned police officer, meanwhile, was relieved of his post and was reassigned to the Cavite Personnel Holding and Accounting Section while investigations are ongoing related to administrative and criminal charges filed against him. His issued firearm was surrendered for safekeeping.
Cavite PPO Acting Provincial Director Col. Ariel R. Red reiterated that no one is above the law, including the law enforcers.
“The Philippine National Police (PNP) does not and will never tolerate any form of abuse. Those found guilty of violating the law will face appropriate administrative and criminal sanctions,” Red said in a statement.
“Every member of the organization is expected to live by the PNP’s core values of Service, Honor, and Justice as the Cavite Police Provincial Office remains steadfast in protecting the rights of every individual and maintaining public trust."
