Sotto: Erwin Tulfo is acting chairman of Senate Blue Ribbon panel

This was confirmed by Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III on Wednesday, Oct. 8, following a caucus of the majority bloc.
"The majority decided that we make the vice chairman the acting chairman muna (for the meantime)," Sotto said in a chance interview, after calling Tulfo, who accepted the role.
Sotto said that there is no need to bring this up during plenary session since Tulfo is the vice chairman of the said panel.
Once Tulfo returns, Sotto said that they will conduct a "blue ribbon meeting", adding that they will still have a discussion to determine who will permanently become the panel's chairperson.
On the other hand, Sotto said that Tulfo will be acting chairman until a complete meeting of the majority bloc. He added that they are still not discounting the five senators that were previously mentioned as viable options to head the Blue Ribbon panel.
However, none of them, according to Sotto, currently wants to accept the position. He even stated that the majority of the majority bloc still wants Lacson as the head of the committee.
"At the moment ayaw, plus Senator Lacson (At the moment, they don’t want to, plus Senator Lacson)," he said.
"Ang sinasabi nila is very busy sila dun sa mga hearings nila eh, halos lahat dalawa, tatlong committee na hinahawakan nila na very important major committees. So what they are saying is they don't have time for it right now (What they’re saying is that they’re very busy with their hearings — most of them are handling two or three major committees that are very important. So, according to them, they don’t have time for it right now)," he added.
Lacson as well as Tulfo, were not present during the caucus.
The Senate leader earlier said that Senators Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito, Raffy Tulfo, Pia Cayetano, Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, and Risa Hontiveros are being considered for the role.
Sotto said in a separate statement that Senator Erwin is also a "good choice" to as chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.
"He has expertise and experience in investigative journalism. Matapang pa (Even tougher)," he added.
