Leyte 1st district congressman and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez has no qualms about attending the hearings of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).
In a short statement Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 8, Romualdez's office said it "confirms receipt today of the invitation" from the ICI.
"Rep. Romualdez welcomes the opportunity to cooperate with the Commission and fully supports its objective of promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance," it said.
"In this regard, Rep. Romualdez is prepared to appear before the Commission," it added.
The Palace-created ICI is looking into the flood control projects corruption scandal.
Romualdez, president of the influential Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD), served as House Speaker during the entire three-year stretch of the previous 19th Congress.
He was also elected Speaker to at the start of the current 20th Congress. The lawyer-solon stepped down as House leader last Sept. 17 to pave the way for a credible investigation on the alleged involvement of lawmakers in the flood control projects mess.
The ICI headquarters is located at Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City.
