Reigning champion National University stamped its class and breezed past Adamson, 69-51, to post its second straight win in the UAAP Season 88 women’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City Wednesday, Oct. 8.
The Lady Bulldogs produced a spectacular first-half scoring spree highlighted by Karl Ann Pingol's and-one play which hiked their lead to 23, 46-23.
The big cushion was enough to deny the Lady Falcons who tried their best to crawl back and spark a fourth-quarter run.
Pingol came all around and tallied 17 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, four steals and two blocks to improve NU’s record to 3-1 at third spot, while Adamson dropped to sixth place as it now holds a 1-3 slate.
“We’re happy with the win, but probably this is not our best game… [and] there’s still lots of room for improvement, especially for some games now, we’re not able to control the boards, especially for this game,” said debuting NU head coach DA Olan.
“Medyo nag-struggle kami again, kaya hindi rin namin masyado na-control yung game from start to finish," he added.
Kristine Cayabyab and Marga Villanueva chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively, with several other players providing offensive support for the Lady Bulldogs.
Elaine Etang and Cheska Apag combined for 23 points which went all for naught for Adamson.
Up next for the Lady Bulldogs are the winless De La Salle University Lady Archers this Sunday, Oct. 12, at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion. Adamson, meanwhile, seeks to bounce back when it tangles with University of the East Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City.
Meanwhile, NU-Nazareth School kept its momentum going with a 93-82 victory over Adamson to go five in a row in the junior high-school division.
Clark Khobuntin stood out with a triple-double performance of 17 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists on top of three steals and one block to keep the Bullpups unblemished in five matches.
In another game, Ateneo annihilated University of the Philippines Integrated School team, 87-40, to seal its second win.
