Muntinlupa officials deliver P8-M financial assistance to quake-hit Cebu LGUs
Muntinlupa City government officials delivered the P8 million financial assistance to Cebu local government units hit by the 6.9 magnitude earthquake last Sept. 30.
On Oct. 7, Muntinlupa officials led by Trina Biazon, Councilors Alexson Diaz and Walter Arcilla, and Erwin Alfonso, head of the Muntinlupa City Department of Disaster Resilience and Management, went to Cebu to give the donations.
Bogo City, one of the nearest to the earthquake’s epicenter, received P2 million from the Muntinlupa City government.
Getting P1 million each from Muntinlupa are Bantayan, San Remigio, Daanbantayan, Tuburan, Medellin, and Tabogon.
The San Remigio municipal government thanked Muntinlupa for the donation.
“The City Government of Muntinlupa, NCR through the effort of Mayor Ruffy Biazon has turned over the P1,000,000.00 cash assistance for the LGU in line with the recent earthquake damages in the province of Cebu. Thank you people of Muntinlupa,” the municipal government posted on Facebook.
The earthquake happened at 9:59 p.m. on Sept. 30 and had “an epicenter located 19 kilometers northeast offshore of Bogo City and estimated depth of 5 kilometers,” according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The Cebu Provincial Government said as of Oct. 7, 72 deaths and 1,062 injured people were recorded.
The earthquake affected 192,489 families or 411,504 individuals, and totally damaged 4,826 houses and partially damaged 45,285 houses in the province.
Muntinlupa’s financial assistance to the earthquake-hit Cebu LGUs was made possible when Mayor Ruffy Biazon endorsed to the City Council a resolution by the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (LDRRMC) requesting for the passage of an ordinance allotting funds to Cebu areas.
Acting on the endorsement, the Muntinlupa City Council held an emergency special session on Oct. 3 to pass the financial assistance ordinance.
Muntinlupa’s financial assistance was taken from the 30 percent Quick Response Fund (QRF) of the Muntinlupa City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (MCDRRMF).
In addition, the Muntinlupa City government sent a team to Cebu to help in the search, rescue and retrieval operations.
