Miss Philippines Air 2025 Maria Flordeliz Mabao and Miss Philippines Earth 2025 Joy Barcoma were up for some fun as they revealed their celebrity crushes during a visit to the Manila Bulletin on Tuesday.
"It has always been Kristine Hermosa. I don’t know why—I just love her so much. Pero kung male celebrity, I appreciate some guys, but I’m not really drawn to them the way I am to Ms. Kristine Hermosa. She is the epitome of beauty, grace, and sophistication," Joy shared.
Meanwhile, Maria revealed that her biggest celebrity crush is Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy.
"For me, it has to be Cillian Murphy. I’ve watched 'Peaky Blinders,' and I think that was the first time he caught my attention. He’s a mix of being very masculine and, at the same time, mysterious," Maria said.
Aside from sharing the celebrities they admire most, Joy and Maria also mentioned that they are open to doing a teleserye or a film in the future.
"I love 'Marimar.' Pero siguro it’s a blend of the culture of the Latin people and the Filipino people. I think it’s interconnected—it’s very much woven into our identity. That’s why I love 'Marimar.' Kasi when you talk about 'Marimar,' it’s always about Pulgoso, about rising from rags to riches, and redeeming your identity as a person. I love 'Marimar' so much—and I love that she’s living her life by the beach," Joy said.
Revealing that she was part of her high school’s theater club, Maria shared that she would love to star in a Cinemalaya film someday.
"I don’t have any particular show I want to be in, but if I were to do a movie, I’d love for it to be a Cinemalaya or an indie film. I was in theater back in high school, and I really appreciate independent films. Hopefully, in the future, I’ll be able to star in one—we’re hoping for that, fingers crossed," Maria said.
Looking back on their journey
As newly crowned queens, Joy and Maria reflected on their early days in the pageant scene and how those experiences shaped them into the women they are today.
"I’ve been joining pageants since 2018—it’s been seven years now—and winning one of the national crowns truly means a lot. It’s not just about the crown or the popularity; it’s about having a platform to reach out to people and educate them about what the Miss Earth pageant organization stands for," Maria shared.
Meanwhile, Joy said that winning the crown has given her a deeper sense of purpose as a beauty queen.
"For me, it really changed my perspective. I realized I now have a purpose bigger than myself. Before, it was usually just about me, but when I joined Miss Philippines Earth and won the title, it changed the way I see and do things. It’s now a huge responsibility on my shoulders.
I’m really glad that I was able to bag the title because now I believe I’m up for something greater—a purpose I can share with everyone, a purpose I can live, and one that can leave a lasting legacy," Joy said.
