Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Wednesday, Oct. 8, reported a 9.2 percent increase in the crime solution efficiency rate of the Manila Police District (MPD) during the first 100 days of his current term.
Speaking at the San Andres Sports Complex, Domagoso credited the improvement to intensified law enforcement efforts and the administration’s focus on public order, safety, and cleanliness.
“Maliban sa kalinisan at kaayusan, ang pagsugpo sa krimen ay ating tinututukan (Apart from cleanliness and order, we are also focusing on crime prevention),” the mayor said, adding that the increased solution rate reflects progress in apprehending law offenders more effectively than in previous months.
Domagoso described the improvement as part of a broader effort to create a “street-smart government," one that prioritizes visible, on-the-ground action. He cited initiatives that included clearing public roads, installing lighting, and cracking down on petty crimes.
“Streets rid of garbage. Streets free of crime. Streets lighted at night. Streets where commerce and traffic can co-exist,” he said. “These are the basics we need to restore investor and public confidence.”
The administration has linked its anti-crime campaign to the broader “Make Manila Great Again” agenda which emphasizes consistent law enforcement and community-level engagement.
According to Domagoso, tolerating minor crimes risks normalizing lawlessness and undermining trust in government.
“There are no big crimes or small crimes. There is only crime,” he said. “Kung ang mga tolongges hindi natin masugpo, paano na kaya ang totoong tulisan (If we can't stop the petty crooks, how can we deal with the real criminals?)”
The city’s increased law enforcement visibility is also intended to support economic recovery, as authorities seek to assure residents and potential investors that Manila is a safer and more orderly city.
Domagoso concluded his remarks by asserting that the city government will continue to be active and present in the streets, not just in offices.
