Filipino designers and brands unite to push local fashion forward
What you need to know about Manila Fashion Week
By John Legaspi
September may be over, but in the Philippines, fashion season is just about to reach its peak as a new platform emerges with a mission to put Filipino design talent in the spotlight—and even better, on the global map.
This October, Manila Fashion Week is set to unveil its inaugural edition, featuring a roster of Filipino designers and homegrown brands presenting the future of local fashion on one runway. What started as BYS Fashion Week has now evolved into a new platform that aims to create a fashion ecosystem with a wider scope and bigger ambitions.
“Hopefully, we want it to be the flagship fashion week of the country, in the same breath as our counterparts in neighboring countries like Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week, Jakarta Fashion Week, and Bangkok Fashion Week,” says Manila Fashion Week founder John Lozano in an interview with Manila Bulletin Lifestyle. “Most likely, people can expect the same caliber and quality as BYS Fashion Week—if not better. After three years of doing BYS Fashion Week, I think we’ve refined how we do it.”
For its 2025 edition, Manila Fashion Week will take place at the Samsung Hall in SM Aura Premier, Taguig City, from Oct. 16 to 19, with designers and brands showcasing their latest collections.
Show schedule:
- Day 1: Andrea Tetangco, 6 p.m. | Viktor, 8 p.m.
- Day 2: Oxgn, 6 p.m. | Chris Nick, 9 p.m.
- Day 3: Iñigo, 6 p.m. | DBTK, 9 p.m.
- Day 4: Viña Romero, 5 p.m. | Randolf, 8 p.m.
John emphasizes the abundance of talent in the Philippines, noting that there are not enough platforms to properly showcase the creativity and skill of Filipino designers. He shares that Manila Fashion Week aims to fill this gap by serving as a stage for local designers and brands to present their stories and capabilities to the world. Ultimately, he envisions MNL Fashion Week becoming an event that not only the region but also the global fashion community will anticipate each year—a launchpad for Filipino talent to achieve international recognition. For now, however, he hopes it will stand as a celebration of the best in Filipino fashion.
“The key to making Filipino fashion global is working together. We are stronger together,” John muses. “Of course, everyone can hold their own fashion shows, but I believe that when we unite—when we come together—we become much stronger. That’s what we want to promote through Manila Fashion Week. These eight designers will help push Filipino fashion forward.”
