DAGUPAN CITY - Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon ordered the immediate construction of a detour bridge during an inspection of the collapsed Piggatan Bridge in Alcala, Cagayan.
"Kailangan tayong magsimula na magtayo ng detour bridge, kausap ko si RD dito at i-aannounce ko na sa media para kinocommit na niya sa inyong lahat, within two months or hopefully even less than two months, maximum two months, nakatayo na iyong detour bridge natin dito," said Dizon during a visit to the area on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
(A detour bridge will be constructed and completed within two months)
Dizon also discussed with Gov. Edgar Aglipay, Alcala Mayor Tin Antonio, and DPWH-Region 2 Director Mathias Malenab policies and possible measures to ensure the structure of the five bridges considered critical in Cagayan.
The Cagayan Provincial Information Office said among these are the management of vehicle crossing and monitoring of load limits.
Dizon emphasized the need for alternative routes to transport key goods to avoid delays and acknowledged Aglipay’s recommendation to use Port Irene in Santa Ana that will be discussed with the Department of Transportation.
