DORONILLA (Negros Occidental Police Office)
BACOLOD CITY – The police chief and two personnel of the E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station in Negros Occidental were relieved from their posts after a 58-year-old rape suspect escaped from their custodial facility recently.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) recommended the relief of Police Major Eric Doronilla and two jailers effective Oct. 1.
Police Lt. Col. Joem Malong, PRO-NIR spokesperson, said Doronilla was transferred to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office headquarters here as deputy at the Provincial Operations Management Unit.
He was replaced by Police Capt. Jyan Carlo Mania, aide de camp of Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director.
Malong said the two jailers were moved to the Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (RPHAU).
A motu propio investigation led by the Internal Affairs Service (IAS) is underway.
The three police officers were relieved to prevent influencing the ongoing investigation, according to Malong.
The escape of a fisherman was reported on Sept. 9, more than a week after he was arrested through an arrest warrant for qualified rape of a minor, with no bail recommended, in Barangay Tuburan on Sept. 1.
Police offered a P20,000 cash reward for any information that would lead to the recapture of the suspect but is yet to be arrested.
