A coalition of pro-Palestine groups staged a protest rally along Kalaw Avenue, corner Roxas Boulevard in Ermita, Manila on Tuesday, Oct. 7, and called on the Philippine government to condemn the ongoing violence in Gaza and express solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The protest, which began at 9:38 a.m., was led by members of several activist organizations, including Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU), Anakbayan, Agham Youth, Bahaghari, Bayan, and Gabriela. Identified group leaders included Raymond Palatino and Dr. Belen Dela Paz.
According to a report from the Manila Police District – Ermita Police Station (PS-5), the protest drew an estimated crowd of approximately 120 participants.
Protesters carried placards and banners with slogans such as:
“Resist US-Israel Genocide”
“Pilipino Palestino, laban sa imperyalismo”
“Free Free Palestine”
“Kamatayan sa imperyalismo”
“Stop the blockade”
“Stand with Palestine”
The demonstrators voiced opposition to what they described as ongoing human rights violations and imperialist aggression in Gaza, and urged the Philippine government to issue an official condemnation.
The rally caused temporary traffic disruption in the area but remained generally peaceful. Personnel from the Ermita Police Station led by Lt. Col. Alfonso Pilota Saligumba III were deployed to monitor the situation and maintain public order.
