Marikina City Mayor Maan Teodoro said social media has become a big help for the local government in immediately addressing on-the-ground concerns and issues and turning them into concrete actions to provide better public service to the people.

“Malaking tulong po ito sa atin dahil mas mabilis na nating nakikita kung ano ang concerns ng ating mga kababayan at mas madali natin itong naaaksyunan (This has been a big help for us because we can now see the concerns of our citizens more quickly and act on them more easily),” Teodoro said on Monday, Oct. 6.

She urged personnel from the Office of Public Safety and Security (OPSS), Engineering Office, City Environmental Management Office (CEMO), Homesite, and other departments to take immediate action whenever they come across online comments or complaints, especially if these can be addressed right away or are already part of their routine maintenance work.

“Kung kaya ngayong araw, gawin na natin ngayong araw (If we can do it today, let’s do it today),” she said.

“Sa ganitong paraan, naipapakita natin na responsive at tunay na maaasahan ang ating pamahalaan (This way, we show that our government is responsive and truly reliable),” she added.

However, she said the local government will not be able to achieve these efforts alone, reminding residents to uphold discipline and order in the city’s streets.

Teodoro added that the true progress of the city can be achieved through the joint efforts of the government and the people.

“Tandaan po natin: hindi gobyerno lang ang gumagalaw dito. Ang tunay na pag-unlad ng Marikina ay joint effort [ng] gobyerno at mamamayan, lagi tayong sama-sama at tulong-tulong (Let us remember: it is not only the government that moves things forward. The true progress of Marikina is a joint effort between the government and the people. We are always united, working together, and helping one another),” the mayor emphasized.
