Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval on Tuesday, Oct. 7, vowed to further strengthen support for local businesses and job creation as the city recorded a 7.27-percent growth in its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2024.
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Malabon ranked among the fastest-growing economies in Metro Manila, with its GDP increasing to P72.34 billion from P67.44 billion in 2023.
Sandoval said the city’s economic performance reflects the success of her administration’s reforms focused on helping small and medium enterprises (SMEs), streamlining services, and providing livelihood opportunities.
“Ito po ay patunay na patuloy na lumalago ang ekonomiya ng Malabon. Mas palalakasin pa po natin ito ngayong taon at sa mga susunod pang mga taon sa pamamagitan ng pagsuporta sa mga negosyong maliliit at malalaki, sa mga manggagawa, at sa mga negosyante (This serves as proof that Malabon’s economy continues to grow. We will further strengthen it this year and in the years to come by supporting both small and large businesses, workers, and entrepreneurs),” she said.
The mayor also stressed that a strong local economy attracts more investors and opens more opportunities for Malabueños.
“Sa tulong ng mga programa para sa MSMEs, digital transformation, at pagpapaunlad ng kabuhayan, titiyakin nating tuluy-tuloy ang pag-ahon ng ating lungsod (With the help of programs for MSMEs, digital transformation, and livelihood development, we will ensure the continuous progress of our city),” Sandoval added.
The local government said that the PSA reported that Malabon’s economy grew by 7.27 percent in 2024, bringing its GDP to P72.34 billion and its per capita GDP to P185,524 — nearly double the 3.2-percent growth in 2023 and higher than the NCR average of 5.6 percent.
The city’s “other services” sector recorded the highest growth at 13.4 percent, followed by manufacturing at 12.8 percent and construction at 10.8 percent.
The city government also attributed the strong performance to business-friendly initiatives such as the Electronic Business One-Stop Shop (E-BOSS) for faster permits, the Malabon Ahon Blue Card for over 90,000 residents, and livelihood programs supporting MSMEs.
Meanwhile, ongoing urban renewal and public service upgrades also helped strengthen the city’s economy.
City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete said Malabon’s economic expansion demonstrates the combined effort of government, business owners, and residents.
“Ang ating pangunahing layunin ay mapabuti ang kalidad ng pamumuhay sa lungsod. Isa sa mga paraan para makamit ito ay ang pagpapalago ng ekonomiya na nakakatulong sa mga naghahanap ng trabaho at mga negosyante (Our primary goal is to improve the quality of life in the city. One way to achieve this is by strengthening the economy to support both job seekers and entrepreneurs),” he said.
He added that under Mayor Sandoval’s leadership, the city remains focused on good governance, efficient services, and sustainable growth.
With sustained reforms and active community participation, Malabon City continues to rise as one of Metro Manila’s most business-friendly and progressive economies.
