The city government of Manila, through its Manila Health Department (MHD) and Office for Senior Citizens' Affairs (OSCA), conducted a medical and dental mission for senior citizens in the city in celebration of Elderly Filipino Week (EFW) on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
Held at the Don Bosco Covered Court in Tondo, Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno Domagoso, together with other city officials, distributed 20 wheelchairs to selected beneficiaries, and offered free meals, x-ray, and laboratory services to the attendees.
In his remarks, Domagoso said "everyday is Elderly Filipino Week in Manila" as the city government continues to create and launch programs for the benefit of the city's senior citizens, including the distribution of free Ensure milk, birthday cakes, and social pension.
The mayor also assured them that the city government continues to strengthen the health centers in the city wherein patients can just walk in and receive medical care. They no longer need to book for an appointment with their doctors online because a doctor or medical professional will always be present at the health centers and the facilities have adequate supply of medicine and other medical needs.
The Elderly Filipino Week (EFW) is celebrated annually pursuant to Proclamation No. 470 signed by former President Fidel Ramos on Sept. 26, 1994.
Tes celebration honors the contributions of Filipino senior citizens, advocates for intergenerational relationships, and promotes the active participation of older adults in inclusive, age-friendly programs.
