Not one to shy away from speaking his mind, Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña has said that incoming Ombudsman Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla has "very small shoes to fill".
"Incoming Ombudsman Remulla will have very small shoes to fill and a very low bar to clear," Cendaña wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 7.
The minority congressman's statement came shortly after news that Remulla--the erstwhile Department of Justice (DOJ) secretary--had been officially appointed as the country's "tanodbayan".
Cendaña's remarks could be construed as a jab at Remulla's predecessor Samuel Martires, who ended his seven-year tenure last July. The solon didn't mention his name, however.
Referring to Remulla, Cendaña said, "He should immediately make SALNs of government officials accessible to the public, and begin the process of filing criminal cases against those involved in the massive corruption cases."
Statements of assets, liabilities, and net worth are seen as a measure of a person's wealth.
There is a call to make SALNs more accessible to the public due to the massive flood control projects corruption scandal, wherein agency officials and lawmakers are implicated.
