The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Tuesday, October 7, that qualified teaching and non-teaching personnel will soon receive their 2023 Performance-Based Bonus (PBB), following the approval of their eligibility by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the AO25 Inter-Agency Task Force.
In a joint statement, the agencies noted that the approval marks a major milestone for the education sector, as DepEd earned a total score of 80 points in the national performance assessment—qualifying it for the highest PBB rate of 52 percent of the monthly basic salary.
This represents an increase from the 45.5 percent rate in 2021 and 48.75 percent in 2022, DepEd noted.
A Teacher I with a monthly salary of P27,000 (Salary Grade 11), for instance, is expected to receive around P14,040 as part of the 2023 PBB.
DepEd expresses gratitude for recognition of teachers’ efforts
DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara welcomed the development and thanked the DBM and AO25 Task Force for recognizing the dedication of teachers and education personnel across the country.
“Our teachers and education personnel are the backbone of our nation’s future,” Angara said. “This bonus is a testament to their unwavering dedication. We thank our partners in government for their continued support in uplifting the teaching profession,” he added.
The DBM will coordinate with DepEd to issue the Special Allotment Release Orders (SAROs) and Notices of Cash Allocation (NCAs) to ensure the prompt release of bonuses to qualified personnel.
Regional and schools division offices will be notified once the funds are ready for disbursement.
DepEd reiterates commitment to teacher welfare
DepEd emphasized that the PBB serves not only as a financial incentive but also as recognition of educators’ crucial role in nation-building.
The announcement coincides with the conclusion of National Teachers’ Month, further underscoring the government’s ongoing efforts to support the teaching profession.
DepEd, DBM uphold Marcos administration’s commitment to educators
DepEd reaffirmed its commitment—together with the DBM—to fulfill President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to uplift the dignity, morale, and welfare of Filipino teachers and education workers, recognizing them as key drivers of national development.
In a related message, Budget Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman highlighted broader reforms aimed at improving teacher welfare.
“The approval of the 2023 PBB for the DepEd workforce reflects our shared commitment to recognize the hard work and vital contributions of our educators to national development,” she said. “With the strong support of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., we are ensuring that performance and dedication are rewarded accordingly.”
She also highlighted the opening of new teaching and non-teaching positions to ease workloads, the doubling of teaching allowances, and the introduction of fairer career progression pathways.
“These are only the first steps,” she said. “We promise to keep listening, keep finding ways to do more, give more, and keep fighting for an education system that truly cares for those who nurture our children,” she added.
