- The former child actor finds new purpose directing concerts.
Most know John Prats as an actor.
He started his showbiz career as child actor, after all.
Then again, things change.
Nowadays, John wants to focus on directing concerts.
Does this mean he is saying goodbye to acting with finality?
He told us, "Ayoko naman magsalita ng tapos, but right now hindi ko siya iniisip. Kasi I'm super enjoying what I'm doing which is directing. Parang nagkaroon ako ng deeper purpose, hindi lang as a director, but also for the artists and the audience."
(I don't want to get ahead of myself. But right now I'm not thinking about it. Because I'm super enjoying what I'm doing, which is directing. It seems like I have a deeper purpose now, not just as a director, but also for the artists and the audience.)
He started directing concert back in 2018.
His latest is TJ Monterde's "Sarili Nating Mundo" series of concerts.
During the "Sarili Nating Mundo" finale concert press conference in El Tubo Bar, San Juan, John reflected on how far he’s come.
"Siguro yung growth ko as a director, ngayon kasi yung base ko sa mga concerts ay yung emotions. Gusto ko yung nakakaausap yung mga artist, and yung isa pa is kahit papasaan knowledgeble na ako sa mga technical aspects, like the lights and visuals. Confident na ako sa gusto kong atake sa bawa't kanta," John said.
(Maybe it's part of my growth as a director — these days, my approach to concerts is rooted in emotion. I enjoy connecting with the artists, and on top of that, I’ve gained a solid understanding of the technical side, like lighting and visuals. I’m more confident now in how I want to interpret and present each song.)
Finding deeper purpose behind the scenes, John admits he still feels nervous about it.
"Nandun parin yung kaba kahit sobrang tagal na namin itong ginagawa ito. I'm still nervous," he added.
(The nervousness is still there. Even after doing this for so long, I still get nervous.)
Saying goodbye to "Sarili Nating Mundo"
"Sarili Nating Mundo" started via a 3-night sold-out concert at the Big Dome. It went on to conquer 40 big stages, evnetually carving a record of 22 sold-out shows.
The concert will wrap up Dec. 2 at the 321 Sports Arena.
"This is my first tour experience and I'm just so grateful to TJ for giving me the chance and opportunity to be part of this journey," John said.
