TGP Party-list Rep. Jose "Bong" Teves Jr. has succeeded former Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co as president of the Party-list Coalition Foundation Inc. (PCFI).
Teves was elected as new leader of the group during a general assembly held just before plenary session Monday afternoon, Oct. 6.
Elected as PCFI chairman during the same meeting was 4Ps Party-list Rep. Marcelino "Nonoy" Libanan. Libanan is the House minority leader.
COOP-NATCCO Party-list Rep. Felimon Espares was elected as executive vice president. Agimat Party-list Rep. Bryan Revilla won as vice president-internal, while ABAMIN Party-list Rep. Maximo Rodriguez won as vice president-external.
In his speech, Teves rued the current state of the party-list system, and raised the possible need for an overhaul.
"Sa ating pagkakaisa, baguhin na natin ang lahat at ibalik ang tunay na imahe ng party-list...madami ang nagsasabing na wala namang naitulong ang party-list, some are even pushing to abolish the party-list system," he said.
(Through our unity, let us change everything and restore the true image of the party-list system…Many are saying that the party-list has not contributed anything, and some are even pushing to abolish the party-list system.)
"Maglingkod tayo, hindi para sa ating sarili, kundi para sa ating mga kababayan...Huwag tayong manahimik. Tumutol tayo kung may nakikita tayong hindi tama sa ginagawa ng ating mga kapwa lingkod-bayan, at suportahan ang gobyerno sa pagsusulong ng maayos na ekonomiya, agrikultura at disenteng kabuhayan," Teves told his colleagues.
(Let us serve not for ourselves, but for our fellow citizens…Let us not remain silent. Let us speak out when we see something wrong in the actions of our fellow public servants, and support the government in advancing a sound economy, agriculture, and decent livelihood.)
Also filed Monday among others was the position of vice president for operations, which went to House Deputy Speaker TUCP Party-list Rep. Raymond Mendoza.
Designated as PCFI's spokespersons were Kamanggagawa Party-list Rep.Eli San Fernando and 4Ps Party-list Rep. JC Abalos.
The controversial Co resigned as Ako Bicol Party-list congressman last Sept. 29. He is reportedly receiving medical treatment abroad.
A former chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Co stepped down from his post amid the allegations of "insertions" in the current 2025 national budget and his supposed involvement in the flood control projects corruption scandal.
