Seventh week of diesel, kerosene price spike to start on Tuesday
Motorists might either need to ease off the gas or start fishing for extra pocket change as fuel prices are set to accelerate once more this week.
Effective Tuesday, Oct. 7, gasoline prices will increase by ₱0.20 per liter, partially offsetting last week’s rollback. Meanwhile, diesel will go up by ₱0.80 per liter.
Kerosene is also set to rise by ₱0.20 per liter.
This will be the seventh straight week that diesel and kerosene prices have gone up.
Seaoil, Shell Pilipinas, Cleanfuel, and Petro Gazz are among the few oil companies that have announced these price movements.
Despite the projected rollback last week due to a supply glut from oil-producing countries, Jetti Petroleum said that this week’s gasoline price spike was attributed to ongoing geopolitical tensions, which could lead to supply disruption.
Last week, analysts stated that diesel prices are increasing due to refinery maintenance, more fuel consumption due to peak harvest demand, and the export ban in Russia—all of which affect production supply.
Additionally, the weaker peso versus the United States (US) dollar has affected this week’s prices.
Recently, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC+), including Russia, is planning to boost oil production by 137,000 barrels per day (bpd) by November. However, this projected output will be smaller compared to the planned volume for this month that would avoid a supply glut.
