Samar province under state of calamity due to 'Opong'
TACLOBAN CITY — The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Samar has declared a state of calamity due to damage caused by tropical cyclone “Opong.”
The SP approved Resolution No. 18-113-25, Series of 2025, during the 14th regular session on Sept 30, to provide immediate response and much needed assistance by local government units.
Based on the report by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office as of Sept. 27, 547 out of 951 barangays were affected by flooding and rain-induced landslides.
Damage to fishery amounted to P26.3 million, affecting 1,123 registered fisherfolks or 3.01 percent of the total registered fisherfolks.
Damage to agriculture (high value crops, rice, vegetable, banana, fruit trees, root crops, and corn) amounted to P72.1 million, displacing 7,421 farmers.
A total of 34,143 families of 132,250 individuals were directly affected by flooding and rain-induced landslides, corresponding to 16.40 percent of the total population.
