CEBU CITY – Repair works at the quake-damaged Bogo City Provincial Hospital have started.
The immediate repair was made possible after private contractor ZLREJ Construction Corp. deployed an initial manpower of 60 engineers and skilled workers to work on the medical facility’s Buildings 1 and 17, including the emergency room and operating room.
The deployment of manpower was in response to the urgent call from Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon for contractors to assist in post-earthquake rebuilding efforts, with the hospital as topmost priority.
The repair operations, conducted in coordination with the DPWH Regional Office, follows a comprehensive structural assessment by DPWH Central Office and Central Visayas engineers.
After the assessment, the hospital has been determined to be structurally sound, a signal that immediate repair works can start.
ZLREJ Construction swiftly mobilized its emergency response teams to begin work on the earthquake-damaged facility following Dizon's directive to regional directors (RDs) to "call all contractors and implement repairs immediately."
"I told the RD tawagan na lahat ng contractor… Sasabihan ko na ang mga private contractor, gawin na nila ito immediately. Mamaya na tayo mag kuwentahan diyan, importante we get it up and running immediately," Dizon said in a media interview during his ground zero on Oct. 1.
Lawyer Rejzl Awit, ZLREJ Construction chief operating officer, said the company is committed to help in the urgent rebuilding and recovery efforts.
"We will do our best to fast-track the hospital repair and make it usable in a week," stated Awit, adding that workers of ZLREJ Construction have been on Ground Zero since the day after the earthquake, helping in the ongoing emergency disaster response and in the rebuilding efforts.
ZLREJ's repair scope includes restoration of damaged floors, walls, ceilings, and roof decks, as well as addressing water leakage issues caused by the earthquake.
ZLREJ has also extended its emergency response by deploying heavy equipment, including backhoes, to assist in establishing the Tent City, a temporary evacuation shelter for earthquake victims in Bogo City.
Additionally, ZLREJ's dumptrucks are being used to transport donated goods to affected communities in Bogo, Tabogon, and Daabantayan, while the company continues distributing relief goods directly to earthquake victims.
