The city government of Las Piñas launched its pet microchipping program to promote responsible pet ownership and a rabies-free city.
Las Piñas Mayor April Aguilar said the program, spearheaded by the City Veterinary Services Office (CVSO) last Oct.3, has helped 60 fur parents register their fur babies and avail of the free microchipping of their pets at SM Southmall.
Aguilar said her fur babies were the first to be implanted with microchips to show her trust for the program and support for animal welfare and public health.
She explained that microchips, which are as small as a grain of rice, are safely inserted between the neck and shoulder blades of pets.
The mayor said each chip is permanent and tamper-proof, serving as a reliable means of registration and identification in the Animal Identification Database Registry System.
Aguilar said the system allows authorities and owners to quickly identify lost pets, prevent cases of mistaken identity and strengthen monitoring for rabies control.
She also emphasized that the program highlights the city’s continuing commitment to both public safety and animal welfare, ensuring that every pet in Las Piñas is protected, accounted for, and part of a healthier community.
The mayor added that pet microchipping is by appointment at the CSVO, or they may wait for the schedule in their respective barangays.
