De La Salle moving on after bitter loss to Ateneo

The Green Archers saw themselves trailing by as many as 31 points, 35-66, in the third quarter before they ran out of gas in the payoff period after a last-ditch effort went for naught last Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
For head coach Topex Robinson and skipper Mike Phillips, DLSU had collected valuable lessons from the bitter loss.
“I guess the lessons that we came from this loss is something that we're going to bring forward, and the earlier we get to forget about this and just remember the lessons, it's going to be better for us,” said Robinson.
“But, I mean, yeah, they beat us badly. It's all us coaches preparing these guys, we put these guys in a bad situation and we learn from it,” he added.
Phillips blamed himself for being ineffective as the leader of the team.
“Parang lumayo ako sa sistema, lumayo ako sa team, may sarili akong ginagawa doon and I just really felt that frustration… because maybe coaches probably get a lot of heat, probably get a lot of blame,” said Phillips.
“But I really feel like it really starts from me because I'm the captain and I've been in those situations before where the pressure is on and I feel like I didn't do my job as the captain to really lead,” he added.
The versatile 6-foot-8 forward starred with 17 points, 20 rebounds, six assists, one steal and one block which, unfortunately, weren’t enough as La Salle absorbed its second loss in four games, falling at fifth place tied with reigning champion University of the Philippines.
It was also their first loss to Ateneo since the first round of the Season 86, where then Atenean Mason Amos powered the Blue Eagles to a 77-72 escape over the Green Archers.
La Salle is set for a week-long break before plunging back into action against National University Sunday, Oct. 12, at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in Manila.
