BACOLOD CITY – Two persons were killed and six others were injured when their van rammed a parked dump truck in Barangay Guimbalaon, Silay City, Negros Occidental on Sunday, Oct. 5.
The fatalities were identified as Gino, 24, of Barangay Guimbalaon; and Jerry, 23, of La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.
Injured were van driver Argie, 31, of Barangay 40 here; Dominador, 23, and Debie, 27, both residents of La Carlota City; Blenchie, 26, of Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental; Rhea, 21, of Barangay Guimbalaon; and Clint, a resident of Barangay Punta Taytay here.
Police Lt. Col. Mark Anthony Darroca, Silay police chief, said Argie lost control of their vehicle on a downhill road and rammed a parked dump truck on the road side.
The victims were employees of an e-bike company and were on their way home from an outing in Silay City when they figured in the accident.
Darroca said passengers were thrown off the vehicle and sustained injuries.
Gino was declared dead in a hospital and Jerry passed away in a hospital on Monday morning, Oct. 6. Only Debie and Clint remain in the hospital. Their companions have been discharged.
Darroca said Argie smelled of alcohol. Argie sustained minor injuries and detained at the police station for the filing of appropriate charges.
The dump truck was empty and its 42-year-old driver was unharmed.
