Suspect apprehended for raping goddaughter

A 39-year-old motorcycle mechanic, tagged as the No. 1 most wanted person in Negros Island Region (NIR), was arrested for allegedly raping his goddaughter in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
The suspect faces six counts of statutory rape, with no bail recommended, and three counts of lascivious conduct under Section 5 of Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act, with bail set at P180,000 for each count.
The alleged abuse reported by the victim and her mother to the police.
Police Lt. Col. Joem Malong, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), said the abuse began on Dec. 10, 2023, with further incidents recorded through April 12, 2025.
The suspect and the victim were neighbors.
The case was filed with the City Prosecutor’s Office on June 21, 2025.
The suspect was in police custody for a separate sexual abuse charge when the warrants were served.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, praised the arrest as proof of their commitment to pursuing justice and holding fugitives accountable. “No matter how long they hide, they will eventually face the consequences of their actions,” Ibay said.
