Nine individuals, including two senior citizens, were injured after a fire hit a hardware store in Barangay Pio del Pilar, Makati City, early Sunday, Oct. 5.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the store, located at the corner of Washington and Facundo Streets, caught fire at around 12:34 a.m. and quickly escalated to a second alarm at 12:39 a.m. Some residents said the store had paint, thinner, and other flammable materials inside.
Due to the incident, the store owner, a 75-year-old woman, experienced difficulty breathing, while a 60-year-old woman sustained a first-degree burn on her left shoulder. Both received first aid from rescuers.
The BFP added that seven others sustained various injuries, including a 17-year-old girl who experienced severe dizziness, body weakness, chest pains, chills, and headache; a 22-year-old man who suffered abrasions on both legs and knees; a 23-year-old man who sustained wounds on both hands; and a 42-year-old man who sustained burns on his left thigh, fingers, and leg.
Three of the seven reportedly jumped from the second floor to escape, including a 24-year-old woman who suffered swelling and abrasions on her back, right foot, and hip; a 30-year-old man who sustained a burn on his left shoulder; and a 36-year-old man who suffered an abrasion on his right foot. They all received treatment from rescuers.
The blaze was declared out at 2:44 a.m.
Arson investigators are still determining the cause of the fire and the estimated cost of damage.
