Manila Vice Mayor Chi Atienza
Manila Vice Mayor Chi Atienza expressed the city government's solidarity with the people of Cebu following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck the province on Sept. 30, leaving more than 60 people dead, hundreds injured, and thousands of families in distress.
“The entire city council of Manila is with you during this time of crisis. Kami po ay nakikiramay sa Cebu at sa lahat ng mga natamaan po ng 6.9 earthquake noong Sept. 30 (We extend our condolences to Cebu and all those affected by the 6.9 earthquake on Sept. 30)," Atienza said during the city council's Oct. 2 session.
She emphasized that Manila has mobilized its resources to support the ongoing rescue and relief efforts under Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso's leadership and guidance.
“The city of Manila, through the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), has mobilized substantial support to help the affected communities and dispatched a team of doctors and nurses, along with medical supplies to assist the affected families,” she explained.
"We also offer to all our prayers. Sana po ay maayos po ang lahat at makabangon ang lahat ng mga apektado sa mga areas na natamaan (I hope everything goes well and all those affected in the affected areas can recover)," the vice mayor added.
For his part, Councilor Uno Lim sponsored a resolution to demonstrate the Capital City’s support for the Cebuanos after the strong tremor that hit the northeast portion of Bogo City, which is considered as the strongest ever recorded in the province.
“Bilang kabisera ng bansa, tungkulin nating ipadama ang ating pakikiramay at pagkakaisa. Ito po ang diwa ng bayanihan at malasakit (As the capital of the country, it is our duty to express our sympathy and unity. This is the spirit of solidarity and compassion)," he said.
