The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has released ₱11 million to assist more than 1,500 workers whose livelihoods were disrupted by the strong earthquake that struck Cebu on Sept. 30.
The aid will be distributed through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program, in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to provide swift support to Filipinos affected by calamities.
A total of 1,513 workers will benefit from the program in quake-hit areas, with 862 from Cebu City.
Another 163 each are from San Remigio, Medellin, and Bogo City—the earthquake’s epicenter—while 81 each are from Sogod and Daan-Bantayan.
In addition, 400 workers from Medellin and Tabogon are set to receive wages amounting to ₱2,004,000 under TUPAD, giving them immediate financial relief while recovery efforts continue.
DOLE Central Visayas Regional Director Roy L. Buenafe said the program will prioritize displaced workers, particularly those engaged in micro, small, and medium enterprises.
He added that personnel from the Cebu Provincial Office have been deployed to profile beneficiaries and monitor conditions on the ground to ensure sustained assistance for affected communities.
