Despite the heavy rains brought by Typhoon Paolo, which placed Bulacan under Signal No. 1, Governor Daniel R. Fernando pressed on with the distribution of DSWD family food packs to thousands of families in the municipality of Calumpit on Friday, Oct. 3.
Gov. Fernando was joined by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) in distributing one box of food to each of the 1,101 families in Barangay Sergio Bayan and to 1,980 families in Barangay Balite.
The 1,567 families of Barangay Buguion and around 1,000 families in Barangay San Marcos also received food boxes from the DSWD.
During the distribution, the governor took the opportunity to address the people of Calumpit, stating that they would invite those involved in the flood control project anomaly to uncover the truth.
"Iimbitahan lang namin sila dahil wala kaming karapatan na mag-issue sa kanila ng subpoena; 'yong nasa itaas lamang ang pwede na kung saan ay patuloy ang imbestigasyon sa kasalukuyan. Sana pagbigyan nila ang aming imbitasyon dahil karapatan natin na malaman ang buong katotohanan para sa kalinawan ng lahat," (We are only inviting them because we do not have the authority to issue them a subpoena; only those above us can do so, and the investigation is currently ongoing. We hope they accept our invitation because it is our right to know the whole truth for everyone's clarity)," Gov. Fernando said.
Meanwhile, Mayor Lem Faustino of Calumpit extends her deepest gratitude to the Provincial Government of Bulacan for the immediate distribution of food boxes from DSWD in their villages.
"Ang malasakit na inyong ipinapakita ay tunay na lakas at sandigan ng bawat Calumpiteño. Patuloy po tayong magtutulungan, dahil sa pagkakaisa at bayanihan, anumang unos ay ating malalampasan," (Your concern and care are truly the strength and foundation of every Calumpiteño. Let us continue to work together -- for through unity and cooperation, we can overcome any storm)," Mayor Faustino said.
