Mayor Nancy Binay, together with the city councilors, led the event where they honored the dedication of teachers and emphasized their vital role in shaping youth and promoting quality education throughout the city.
Teaching and non-teaching staff from elementary, high school, and senior high school levels in the city attended the celebration.
As part of it, all of them received a teacher's kit, which included custom jackets, polo shirts, and portable fans.
In addition, each teacher was given a P2,000 gift voucher as a token of appreciation for their unwavering service.
During the celebration, Binay said teachers hold a special place in her heart, noting that she was named after her grandmother, a schoolteacher, and that teaching runs in the family. She added that her father, former Vice President and Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay, also taught at the Philippine College of Commerce (Polytechnic University of the Philippines), Philippine Women’s University, and St. Scholastica’s College.
“Kaya gano'n kalapit po sa aking puso ang mga teacher. Kaya naman po, batid ko ang lahat ng sakripisyo at kontribusyon ninyo (That is why teachers hold such a special place in my heart. I am well aware of all your sacrifices and contributions)," she said.
She also acknowledged their everyday sacrifices made for their students, saying, "The long hours preparing lesson plans, the extra effort and care for your students, pati po 'yung desisyong bumangon at magturo kahit may personal na pinagdadaanan (including your decision to stand up and teach despite personal challenges). I see you, I understand you, and I honor you.”
"It is not said enough, but maraming salamat sa inyong lahat (thank you so much for all of you). Thank you for choosing such a noble profession. You are the true heroes of our country," she continued.
The local government said that the celebration not only honored the hard work and sacrifices of teachers but also reinforced the city’s commitment to supporting the teaching community, recognizing them as indispensable partners in building the nation's future.
