ZAMBOANGA CITY – The city government of Zamboanga sent another batch of relief assistance on Thursday night, reaffirming its solidarity with earthquake-stricken Cebu province.
“The first batch of assistance and rescue team dispatched on Wednesday night has arrived in Cebu City,” Mayor Kymer Olazo said in a statement Friday.
Olaso led the send-off for the relief goods on Thursday night in a wharf in Barangay Baliwasan, along with City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Chief Elmeir Jade Apolinario, and key officers of the Philippine Coast Guard.
Socorro Rojas, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) chief, said the second shipment of relief assistance consisted of 700 sacks of rice of 25 kilos each, 20 boxes of canned sardines, and 1,000 jerry cans with water.
Rojas stated that Olaso personally donated 1,000 bags, each containing two kilos of rice, using his personal funds.
The relief goods were transported aboard two PCG vessels—BRP Tubbataha and BRP Capones—bound for Cebu.
Olaso thanked the PCG team led by Commodore Rejard Marfe, commander of Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao, for transporting the goods. (PNA)
