QC gov't donates P10M, sends team to Cebu

The Quezon City Government has pledged P10 million in financial assistance and deployed a response team to Cebu following the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck the province on Sept. 30.

The assistance will be distributed to ten badly affected localities, with P1 million each for Bogo City and the municipalities of Medellin, San Remigio, Bantayan, Santa Fe, Tabogon, Tabuelan, Sogod, Carmen, and San Fernando. 

The funds are intended to support local rehabilitation and recovery programs.

Apart from the financial aid, Quezon City also dispatched 26 engineers and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) personnel to assist with damage assessment and infrastructure auditing. Emergency medical services and a psychosocial support team were also sent to provide immediate health and mental health assistance to residents in need.

In its statement on Friday, Oct. 3, the city government emphasized its solidarity with Cebu communities:

“Nakikiisa at nakikiramay ang Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Quezon sa ating mga kababayan sa Cebu matapos ang matinding 6.9 magnitude na lindol na yumanig sa kanilang probinsya. Dalangin namin ang kaligtasan, kalakasan, at mabilis na pagbangon ng bawat naapektuhang pamilya (The Quezon City Government expresses its solidarity and condolences to our fellow citizens in Cebu after the powerful 6.9 magnitude earthquake that shook their province. We pray for the safety, strength, and speedy recovery of every affected family),” it said. 

It added that the team had already arrived in Cebu to provide technical and medical support, with the assurance of additional assistance if needed.

“Sa panahon ng ganitong pagsubok, hindi kayo nag-iisa (During this time of trial, you are not alone),” it added. 

The September 30 earthquake caused heavy damage to homes, schools, and other infrastructure across northern Cebu, displacing residents and straining local resources.
