Severe Tropical Storm Paolo (international name: Matmo) intensified into a typhoon as it neared Isabela-Aurora provinces on Friday morning, Oct. 3, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
As of 8 a.m., the center of Paolo was located over the coastal waters of Dilasag, Aurora, packing maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 180 kph.
It was moving west-northwestward at 25 kph.
In the PAGASA’s 8 a.m. public briefing, weather specialist Benison Estareja said Paolo is most likely to make landfall over Dinapigue, Isabela between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. today.
After landfall, the typhoon is expected to cross large parts of Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Region throughout the day before emerging over the West Philippine Sea by evening.
