ZAMBOANGA CITY – Groceries worth an estimated P7 million were destroyed in a fire that hit a warehouse in Barangay Santa Catalina here on Thursday night.
In a report on Friday, Supt. Leo Pioquinto, Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD) marshal, said the fire broke out around 5:34 p.m. in Maria Camins compound.
“Nine fire trucks responded to the fire call,” Pioquinto said, adding that a certain Edgar Madrazo owns the warehouse with two lessors.
He said that water tankers from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and Zamboanga City Water District supported responding firefighters.
Pioquinto said the fire reached second alarm and was completely extinguished around 6:23 p.m.
He said they have yet to ascertain the cause of the fire.
The fire was the fifth this week in the city, resulting in damage to property totaling P20.3 million.
On Thursday, some P9-million worth of properties were destroyed in a three-hour fire on Estrada St., Barangay Tetuan.
On Tuesday, P3.5-million worth of properties were also destroyed when a fire hit the College of Liberal Arts building of Western Mindanao State University in Barangay Baliwasan.
On Monday, two fires gutted separate houses in Barangays Tetuan and Tumaga. Property damage was pegged at P600,000 and P275,000, respectively. (PNA)
