President Marcos has appealed to government agencies and local government units (LGUs) to be the solution Filipinos need, and not be the source of added burden.
"Magsilbi tayong solusyon, hindi dagdag na pampahirap (Let us serve as a solution, not an added burden)," Marcos said in his speech in one of his engagements in Pampanga on Friday, Oct. 3.
Marcos was in San Fernando City, Pampanga to lead the distribution of assistance—Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan (AKSYON) Fund Assistance— to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families affected by recent typhoons.
He urged public officials to normalize providing efficient and humane services.
"Para sa mga ahensya ng gobyerno at lokal na pamahalaan na nandito ngayon: Gawin nating normal ang mabilis, maayos, at makataong serbisyo (For the government agencies and local governments that are here today: Let us make fast, efficient, and humane service the norm)," he told them.
"Sa bawat desisyong ating gagawin, lagi nating iisipin kung papaano natin mapapaglingkuran ang ating kapwa Pilipino na may dignidad at malasakit (In every decision we make, let us always think about how we can serve our fellow Filipinos with dignity and compassion)," he added.
In his speech, the President has assured OFWs that the government is taking steps towards a resilient future for them and their families, citing a memorandum of agreement (MOA) that aims to protect them from illegal recruitment and human trafficking.
According to him the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the provincial government of Pampanga signed the MOA on Friday.
"At sa ilalim ng kasunduang ito, magpapatupad ang mga kasaping ahensya, katuwang ang lokal na pamahalaan ng Pampanga, ng mga programa laban sa illegal recruitment at human trafficking (And under this agreement, the member agencies, together with the local government of Pampanga, will implement programs against illegal recruitment and human trafficking)," Marcos said.
"Ito ang magsisilbing proteksyon para sa ating mga kababayan bago pa man sila makaalis ng bansa (This will serve as protection for our fellow Filipinos even before they leave the country)," Marcos added.
He urged the agencies and the provincial government to have a clear and collective action in enforcing the MOA.
During the event, Marcos led the distribution of P5,000 cash assistance to about 3,000 OFWs from 22 calamity-stricken municipalities and cities in the province.
He also pledged to allocate another P5,000 each for the beneficiaries through the Office of the President.
