DAVAO CITY - Around 200 children who lost their homes in fire here on Thursday, Oct. 2, received a day of joy and relief on Friday, Oct. 3, through an outreach activity organized by Rep. Paolo Duterte’s office.
Held in a covered court in Barangay 21-C Piapi Boulevard, the activity featured games, food packs, toys, and a special appearance by Jollibee, delighting young survivors and their families with laughter and cheers.
Rep. Duterte said the initiative was meant to ease the trauma faced by children in the aftermath of the blaze and remind families that the community stands with them as they recover.
“We must find ways to make children happy so they can temporarily forget the trauma of the recent fire. We will do our best to ease their daily struggles while their families strive to rebuild their lives,” Duterte said.
Parents thanked organizers, saying the event gave their children a chance to smile again after losing their homes and belongings.
The First Congressional District Office assured that they will continue coordinating with barangay officials and social welfare agencies to assist affected families as recovery efforts progress.
The fire destroyed at least 400 homes and displaced hundreds of families.
The blaze reached fourth alarm. The Bureau of Fire Protection is investigating the cause of the fire.
