Each Department of Health (DOH)-run hospital in Cebu province will receive P20 million for rehabilitation and to sustain health services following the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that jolted the province, the agency said.

On Oct. 2, President Marcos visited Cebu to personally inspect the extent of the damage wrought by the strong earthquake and to assess ongoing government response efforts.

“Inanunsyo naman ng Pangulo na makatatanggap ng PHP20 milyon ang bawat DOH hospital sa lalawigan ng Cebu para sa rehabilitasyon at sa pagpapatuloy ng serbisyong pangkalusugan na kailangang kailangan ng mga pasyente (The President announced that each DOH hospital in the province of Cebu will receive PHP20 million for rehabilitation and for the continuation of health services that patients urgently need),” the DOH said in its advisory on Friday, Oct. 3.

The health department added that medical teams and emergency responders have been providing uninterrupted services to survivors of the quake.

“Walang patid ang pagresponde ng ating mga health care workers at emergency teams dahil napakahalaga na agad na mabigyan ng lunas ang mga nakaligtas mula sa mga gumuhong istruktura (Our health care workers and emergency teams have been responding without pause because it is crucial to immediately provide treatment to survivors pulled from collapsed structures),” it said.

It also noted that within 24 hours after the tremor, additional medicines and commodities were flown to Cebu via a Philippine Air Force C-130 aircraft.

“Sa loob ng 24 oras, naihatid agad sa Cebu ang mga karagdagang medical commodities gaya ng gamot, sakay ng C-130 noong October 1 (Within 24 hours, additional medical commodities such as medicines were immediately delivered to Cebu onboard a C-130 on October 1),” the agency said.

The DOH stressed it will sustain its medical response in coordination with local governments and partner agencies in quake-hit communities.
