“Taos-pusong panalangin at pakikiramay sa lahat ng apektado ng lindol na yumanig sa Visayas (I wholeheartedly send my prayers and condolences to all those affected by the earthquake that shook Visayas),” she said in a video message on Thursday, Oct. 2.
Her video message posted on Facebook was translated from Bisaya to Tagalog.
The Vice President was seen in a short video speaking with Mayor Edwin Salimbangon of Medellin, Cebu, where she visited.
Duterte acknowledged the “pain” brought by the devastation of the earthquake as she urged victims not to lose hope.
According to the Office of the Vice President (OVP), the official arrived in the province on Wednesday, Oct. 1, and will be staying there until Thursday to visit the affected areas.
“We ask God to grant comfort to those who have lost loved ones, and to provide relief and strength for those holding their families together amid property loss and damage,” Duterte said in a recorded statement in Medellin.
“May you find strength in one another, and may the legendary Visayan warmth and resilience shine through amidst this deep sorrow,” she added.
The OVP distributed food packs, potable water, hygiene kits, and other non-food essentials to affected families in Medellin, San Remigio, Bogo, Tabuelan, and Tabogon.
As of 1 p.m. on Thursday, the OVP said it has delivered 2,000 relief boxes, 3,100 boxes of Relief for Indigents and Individuals in Crises and Emergencies (RIICE) assistance, and 1,500 kilograms of rice to earthquake-hit households.
This came amid the postponement of the plenary deliberations at the House of Representatives for the OVP’s 2026 proposed budget after the Vice President failed to show up at the Batasang Pambansa Complex on Wednesday.
This was already rescheduled from being in Tuesday’s agenda for the plenary session.
A motion to put the consideration of the OVP’s proposed budget in Thursday’s agenda was approved at the House of Representatives.
House Deputy Majority Leader Representative Arnan Panaligan said this is the “last chance” for the office as it is the last day of plenary deliberations for the proposed 2026 budget.
