San Juan City hailed for advancing population, development efforts
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora announced that the city has been recognized by the Commission on Population and Development–NCR (CPD-NCR) for its outstanding performance in advancing the population and development (POPDEV) agenda at the local level from 2022 to 2024.
The city was awarded the Most Outstanding Local Government Unit in NCR in Localizing the POPDEV Agenda for 2025 during the Rafael M. Salas Kaunlarang Pantao Awarding Ceremony.
"This recognition is a testament to our city’s strong commitment to population and development initiatives and the collective efforts of our community. Congratulations as well to our POPDEV head, Dan Pedracio, for his leadership in this achievement," Zamora said.
The CPD said the POPDEV Agenda's key aspects include:
1. Localization of the Philippine Population and Development Plan of Action (PPD-POA): The agenda focuses on integrating the PPD-POA's principles into local development plans and initiatives.
2. Capacity Building: Strengthening the leadership and management capabilities of local government units (LGUs) is crucial for implementing POPDEV-related initiatives.
3. Data Utilization: Establishing and analyzing demographic and socio-economic data at the provincial and local levels is essential for informed planning and policymaking.
4. Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health: Promoting responsible parenthood and family planning services remains a central strategy.
5. Migration Management: Creating and integrating internal migration databases supports urban-rural development and helps manage urbanization efficiently.
